Getting the Shot: A Fisheye Rig for the World Rookie Tour Skate Stop

Skateboarding does not slow down for anyone, so when we joined the World Rookie Tour as production partner, the standard camera package was not going to cut it. The answer was a fisheye rig, mounted low and close to the action, built to capture skaters the way skate videos have always been shot: right in the middle of the trick.

Action sports coverage forces you to rethink the whole camera package. Standard broadcast lenses are built for stability and distance; skate coverage needs to be handheld, fast, and close enough to feel the impact of a landing, while still fitting into a live multi-camera broadcast alongside wider event cameras. Building a custom rig like this, and knowing exactly when to cut to it, is part technical setup and part knowing the sport itself.

We enjoy these projects because they push us to build gear and workflows that do not exist off the shelf. If your event needs a camera solution that is not in a standard package, whether that is action sports, extreme conditions, or something else entirely, we like a good technical challenge.
